The adventure began in May of this year in Deltaville, Virginia. Our first trip was planned to move her to New Bern, North Carolina so we would be a little closer to our home in Tennessee and much closer to our kids and grandkids in Chapel Hill, NC. The first trip was more of an adventure than we had planned with multiple difficulties and we didn't quite make it before putting in for repairs in Oriental, NC. There is a long detailed account of this trip that is available upon request but a little lengthy for this blog. Many thanks to our very dear friend, Mike Degroot, who signed up as first mate without realizing the abuse we would shower upon him. Our last night of this first trip was spent at anchor in Adams Creek off the Neuse River watching the dolphins play, the sun set and toasting with a cool beverage. At least it ended well.
We spent a month in Oriental overseeing numerous repairs before moving Summer Wind to New Bern in July. Our intentions were to continue to work on the boat to make it "ours", wait out hurricane season and head to Florida by November 1. And, as planned we left New Bern on November 1.
